Wednesday Closing Keynote - The Paradoxical Policy of “Teach Less Learn More” in Singapore

Although the Singapore education system has been highly commended by various international bodies such as OECD and McKinsey, it is still changing to focus on quality instead of quantity.  In this keynote address, I will explain how Singapore reform curriculum, teaching and learning in its schools. I will also share the key success factors, reform challenges, and the lessons learned along the way.  In particular, one of the policy initiatives in the Singapore education system is to encourage teachers to “teach less” so that students can “learn more”.  The Singapore story shows that educational reform is a journey full of paradoxes and difficult choices.
